Job Description
Job Title: Payroll Specialist
General Summary: The Payroll Specialist works with the team to ensure timely setup of employees and accurate and timely payroll processing. The Payroll Specialist also leads the reconciliation and analysis of payroll-related accounts.
Essential Job Functions:

Support payroll team in the creation and submission of semi-monthly payroll.

Submit payroll filing and reporting to third party administrators

Coordinate and follow up with payroll provider regarding agency tax notices
-
Facilitate timely and prompt processing of employee benefit payments
-
Ensure payroll related entries for semi-monthly payroll are recorded timely and accurately

Support the month-end close process, financial and external audits
-
Reconcile benefits paid against payroll deductions and coordinate with Human Resources on same
-
Review new employee set up and maintain changes in timekeeping system.

Final review of all labor cost postings

Perform quarterly 941 labor to payroll reconciliations and analysis

Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and timesheet inquiries.

Monthly and periodic reconciliations and analysis

Review project assignments for leave projects for employees

Review approved payroll changes to ensure in compliance with labor laws

Year-End processes to include 941 reconciliations, W2 validation, Workers Compensation reporting, etc.

Ensure tax updates are handled promptly

Manage PTO accruals to ensure employees are properly mapped to plans and accruals are prorated for unpaid leave types

Reconcile and prorate employee benefits for unpaid leave
Qualifications Required:
-
Experience with processing payroll and benefits for employees under the Service Contract Act
-
Experience with ADP or Paycom
-
Experience with Deltek or Unanet
-
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
Education Requirement:
-
Prefer AA or AS degree with at least three (3) years related payroll experience or High school diploma with at least five (5) years of responsible administrative work in payroll.
Work Environment: Work performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and customers. Hybrid work schedule with two (2) days in the Reston, VA office.
