Solutions Architect
Summary
The Solutions Architect provides architecture and engineering support to many projects across the VPAS program with large-scale systems. Tasks may include planning, initiating, managing, executing, and closing out small and large-scale programs in support of an agency’s mission. A deep understanding of VA and Veterans Benefits Administration.
Duties and Responsibilities

Create, document, and evangelize IT solutions and cloud reference architectures with a focus on microservices and native commercial cloud services.

Design, develop, and integrate prototype solutions and services

Rearchitect existing and design new cloud systems that integrate with our client's legacy systems, COTS packages, SaaS applications, and data systems.

Work with clients to understand and package the right set of capabilities into a solution that meets the specific client need.

Design solutions that accommodate all aspects of the lifecycle and personnel including migrations, deployment, monitoring, training, and helpdesk.

Communicate best practices/frameworks; specifically, agile (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) and DevSecOps.

Communicate with clients in non-technical terms, understand their requirements and guide developers with suitable, integrated digital solutions.

Drive and provide architecture review and contingency plans and documentation aligning to industry best-practices and client policy and regulations.

Lead the technical responses to proposals, including developing the conceptual architecture, aligning the pursuit team around the architecture, writing responses that win, and taking a lead role in client presentations as the “owner” of the solution.
To excel in this role, a Solutions Architect needs a strong background in Enterprise and Solutions Architecture methodologies across multiple task orders, excellent leadership and communication skills, the ability to operate within complex and ambiguous situations. Additionally:

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience

VA, VBA and VICCS Experience required

Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) Data Warehouse

Knowledge of Source Material Processing, File Conversion services, Mail Management, Automation development and operations, Business Process Automation, Modernization and Retirement Services, Operations and Maintenance, inbound/outbound call centers

Experience with SAFe Agile Delivery
-
Ability to work in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
-
Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.
-
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment: Work performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and customers.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries. Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple demands and deadlines.
