Senior Scientific Program Manager - A Senior Scientific Program Manager is a leadership role that involves managing large, complex scientific research programs, guiding strategic decision-making, and overseeing the development and implementation of high-impact biomedical research initiatives. This role also includes providing mentorship to junior staff and ensuring compliance within NIH policies and regulations. Some key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of large-scale scientific research programs that align with NIH’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide high-level scientific guidance and direction and execution of research initiatives, ensuring innovation and alignment with current biomedical research trends.
  • Oversee and manage multiple research programs, ensuring that they meet key objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Lead the grant review process, ensuring high standards of scientific merit and compliance with NIH guidelines.
  • Provide high-level reports and briefings to leadership
  • Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient execution of the program goals and deliverables.

Qualifications:

PhD, MD, or equivalent in biomedical sciences, public health, or a related field.

10+ years of experience in scientific research, program management, or a leadership role in government, academia, or industry.

Extensive knowledge of biomedical research, clinical trials, and emerging scientific trends.

Proven experience leading large-scale research programs and multidisciplinary teams.

Strong experience managing grant portfolios, reviewing proposals, and evaluating program outcomes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Work performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and customers.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries. Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple demands and deadlines.
